When I'm building a prototype, do I need to keep records of the testing I do as I'm building it?

Confession, I don't. I should.
It can be as simple as taking some pictures. You may want to refer back to it some day. Keep a log book of what you test and the results. Check Amazon for a logbook to record your inventions and developments.
